A relatively easy ride on a striking section of the Mountain Skyway (WV48), rounding curves on two-lane main roads and over some decided bends on a few country roads. You’ll go right past the Wappocomo Station if you want to schedule an excursion train through The Trough and, outside of Kirby, where the North River flows is the Rio Turtle, a bit of whimsy set into the river.

Rio Turtle A bit of whimsy, this brightly and oft-painted turtle-shaped rock is located in the North River along Augusta-Ford Hill Road, 2.5 miles west of Rio.

Taggart Hall House – Visitors Center Clapboard “half” house built in 1795/1798 by Francis Taggart on lots Lord Fairfax had surveyed to encourage settlement in “western” counties. Private residence until late 1990s. Currently houses Civil War Museum & Visitors Center. 91 S High St, Romney.
